While primary education is free in Kenya, the government is reluctant to invest in educational institutions in marginalized, rural areas.
One Girl Can built a water point in Nanyuki that provides water for 3 villages. Now girls no longer have to walk such a long distance to fetch water, they are able to stay in school for the full day. We also invested in badly needed infrastructure, including 2 new classrooms to alleviate overcrowding.
Investment since 2007: $71,400
Buildings Constructed or Renovated:
a water catchment | 2 new classrooms | 5-stance latrine | perimeter fence
