Donor of the Month: Abbie Niles Francis

Our May donor of the month, Abbie Niles Francis, has a very special and personal story about why her family has chosen to make a significant contribution to a much-needed dormitory rebuild at Magomano School.   Abbie wrote this beautiful and touching message to the students at the school. She wants to share her story in the hope that it might reach other women who have gone through similar experiences and help them find some peace.     "I write to you as a fellow woman in this amazingly ever shifting world. I wanted to share with you a little bit about myself so you can better understand why I chose to donate to the One Girl Can Society.   My family is part of the hard-working middle class of America and I have been blessed in this life more than most. It wasn’t until July of 2016 that I was chosen to go through something devastating, mentally and physically painful. So much so, that it would stay with me for the rest of my life.   I lost a baby during my pregnancy for no other reason than, it just happens sometimes. Since then I have been struggling with a way to honor her life so that her spirit is remembered always. I refuse to let this situation negatively affect my heart, my soul, my mind or my life in any way. Her loss will not be what makes me weak, but what gives me strength.   And so, I write this to you because I hope that you can make that choice for yourself when things take a turn for the worst. We might be of different race, religion, origin, etc. but we share a common bond; we are all human beings with one heart and one mind. We choose how to make our lives matter and how to overcome adversity.   I pray that those who have had trauma in their life, whatever it might be, or whenever it might happen, will not allow it to hold you back but to push you forward. Whatever bad or good fortune may come our way we can always give it meaning and transform it into something of value.   That is why I chose to donate to One Girl Can Society. I hope that this donation can help provide a safe, loving sanctuary for you to rest your heads and dream of all the amazing things you want to do in life. This experience has helped me slow my daily pace, enjoy the little joys God sends me throughout the day that otherwise I would have been completely oblivious to. Every day I see as an adventure, an opportunity to make a difference. I try to do good and be the change I want to see in the world and not allow fear to rule my passion for self-discovery.   And so, I leave you with this message in dedication to my daughter, Jane Francis, so that your losses in life will not be seen as hurtful, but as opportunities for spiritual transformation. With transformation are you truly able to awaken the greatness within."
